All Tied Up! GAME 7
Three minutes into the sixth Pittsburgh/Detroit game Tuesday night, Henrik Zetterberg was accessed a goalie interference penalty. From my view, Jordan Staal pushed Zetterberg into Marc-Andre Fleury. At the 15 minute mark Zetterberg got Detroit’s 1stshot on goal, but Fleury made a brilliant save. Then, Fleury stopped Datsyuk cold, with minutes left in the first period. Chris Osgood was solid for the Red Wings – stopping 12 shots in the first, while Fleury was faced with only three. Jordan Staal scores, 51 seconds into the second, to put the Penguins up 1-0 and the Pens looked in control. Both teams played very defensively and Evengi Malkin was great at both ends of the ice. Zetterberg had a great chance, but hit the post, with minutes left in the second period but the score remain 1-0 for the penguins. The sea of white was incredible and the action on the ice kept everyone on the edge of their seats. Seconds later Ruslan Fedetenko almost put one away, but there was no more scoring in the period. Shots were 24-12 in favor of Pittsburgh. The third period opened with some pushing and shoving and Detroit threatened several times; and finally Tyler Kennedy scores a wrap- around goal to put Pittsburgh up 2-0 and it seemed they would win easily. Not so as Kris Draper scores for Detroit at 11:50 and Fleury didn’t have a chance. The Red Wings got their first power-play 10 minutes into the third, but fail to score. Detroit was coming on strong and Pittsburgh was having a tough time clearing their end. Now! Here comes the ill-fated penalties, that plagued the Penguins in the fifth game. Pittsburgh gets back to back penalties 13 minutes into the third, and my mind says –here we go again. Thanks to Rob Scuderi, who made two incredible saves in the late minutes and is actually a defenceman, not a goalie, kept the game in hand! I had warned of this scenario. However the Pens survived. My heart stood still as Cleary gets a break-away with 1:30 minutes left in the game and Fleury holds his ground, and kicks the puck away. Over-time for me would have been too much to take. What a show, what a game and it is exactly what the NHL needs at this moment! On to game seven and a lot more of anguished moments. Catch you tomorrow, Momma Gouche
