Team USA wins a thriller!

The most anticipated game of the group-play round of men's Olympic ice hockey was all it was chalked up to be, with the United States scoring a controversial 3-2 shootout win over the Russians on Saturday.

T.J. Oshie scored four times on six tries in an eight-round shootout for the U.S. (internationally, shooters can repeat after the first three). Cam Fowler and Joe Pavelski scored the regulation goals.

Russia had a goal late disallowed in the third period, seemingly because the net was knocked off its moorings, then survived a late U.S. power play, spanning between the third period and overtime. Goalie Sergei Bobrovsky made two highlight-reel saves on U.S. forward Patrick Kane in overtime.

Pavel Datsyuk scored both of the Russians' regulation goals.

The Americans have earned a bye to the quarterfinals. They close out group play tomorrow against Slovenia, a surprise winner Saturday over Slovakia. Russia plays Slovakia.
