The stray dogs roaming around Sochi for the Winter Olympics have been one of the bigger talking points during the Games. The Associated Press (via Yahoo) reported earlier this month that the city announced last year a contract "to catch and dispose" of stray dogs.

Now, an American Olympian and a Russian billionaire are doing their part to send the dogs to a good home.

After posting a photo of an adorable stray puppy that he ran into (and another photo with multiple puppies), skier Gus Kenworthy shared this on his Facebook page

Looking into finding a way to bring them home with me but also don't want to take them away from their mama because she was being super cute and protective over them. I bought them some food and I'll go visit them again tomorrow.

Kenworthy later tweeted that he has made vaccination appointments and lined up kennels for the puppies.

CNN's Rachel Nichols later followed up with Kenworthy during an exclusive interview:

But it's not just the Olympic athletes—Russian billionaire Oleg Deripaska has decided to take action by building shelters for the strays in Baranovka, which is less than five miles outside of Sochi.

While they might not take a medal home at these Olympics, these two have done commendable work worthy of international recognition.
