Newcastle United suffered a fourth consecutive home defeat for the first time since 1987 on Wednesday, as they were thrashed 4-0 by Tottenham Hotspur.

Emmanuel Adebayor put Spurs in front after 19 minutes when Nabil Bentaleb's cross was parried into his path, and it was 2-0 not long after the restart as Paulinho netted from close range.

The Magpies struggled to get back into the tie and found themselves completely out of it with time running out.

Adebayor grabbed his second of the evening after good work from Andros Townsend, before substitute Nacer Chadli scored the goal of the night, bending the ball home from distance to complete the rout.
