Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice from the spot, Tuesday, as the guests built up an early 2-0 lead at the Vicente Calderon, and after the second it was clear Atletico’s number was up, and Madrid were able to coast to the straightforward victory.

Half-Time analysis

Casillas: Hasn’t conceded in more than 800 minutes but was beaten when Raul Garcia’s shot rang off his left-hand post.

Carvajal: Very much the first-choice right-back for manager Carlo Ancelotti.

Varane: Looking solid in his return from injury.

Ramos: Has so far won all of his aerial battles.

Arbeloa: Looks uncomfortable at left-back and picked up a yellow card for a challenge on Manquillo.

Illarramendi: Completed each and every one of his passes during the first half.

Alonso: Touched the ball 44 times in an effective 45 minutes.

Modric: Has so far completed 94% of his passes.

Bale: Earned Madrid’s second penalty but has so far touched the ball just 25 times.

Isco: Not all that involved in the “false 9” role.

Ronaldo: Two goals and an eye-popping distribution rate of 96%.

Full-Time analysis

Casillas: His record-breaking clean sheet streak continues, but will it be enough to see him handle a Primera Division match?

Carvajal: Another exceptional outing from the 22-year-old, on both sides of the ball.

Varane: An important 90 minutes under his belt as he continues his comeback from an extended injury absence.

Ramos: Was withdrawn at the break in favour of Nacho.

Arbeloa: The sooner one of Coentrao and Marcelo is healthy, the better.

Illarramendi: One of his better games in Madrid shirt saw the former Real Sociedad midfielder complete 94% of his passes.

Alonso: Five tackles on the defensive side of the ball.

Modric: Didn’t need to come up with the impact performance that has so often been required of him this season.

Bale: Only 53 touches and two shots in the entire match—he needs to do better.

Isco: More touches than Bale, and better defensively as well.

Ronaldo: Was withdrawn for Jese with 15 minutes remaining.
Nacho: Allowed Sergio Ramos a 45-minute rest after coming on for a solid half-game cameo.

Casemiro: Made a good interception on Adrian, but his distribution was poor.

Jese: Only 11 touches in a brief showing.
