Why Vince, Why? Is Wrestling Dead?
I remember it like it was yesterday. Monday Night Wars. Those were the good old days!
It was about 13 years ago. Every Monday night, I would have two friends come over. One brought the Pizza, one brought the beer, and we watched the greatest era is Wrestling history.
It all started with Scott Hall interrupting the WCW show. Then was the birth of the Outsiders, then the NWO.
WCW pulled no punches at all either. The would announce who was going to win the RAW matches because at that time, RAW was taped.
Vince McMahon countered with Stone Cold being the worst employee ever, and the Rock being one of the greatest mic workers ever.
Working in TV, I used to read a magazine called Variety. Great magazine, everyone in TV should read it. The article on the inside page said, McMahon purchases TNT-based WCW.
WHAT?
I thought one of two things would happen. Vince would either keep both shows on the air, and double his commercial time. Or, he would combine the rosters and create one super show.
I was hoping for the latter, because I thought that would be the only way to make wrestling better than it was.
During the show, Vince would be shown watching WCW, talking about Lex Luger, and how he would be fired. Jeff Jarrett and how he would be G, double O, double N, double E, GONE.
Then the end of the show comes. Vince is in the ring talking about how Ted Turner was going to come down to the ring at WM and sign the papers. I thought no way.
Shanes music hits, which surprisingly, is the same music Vince uses today. Shane comes out and says he bought WCW.
I thought fantastic. I can live with keeping both shows on. Take WCW off for a couple weeks, redesign the set, put your twist on it.
WCW never returned.
Vince started out with Booker T coming to WWE. Instead of making it like the NWO invasion, they slowly brought in people from WCW.
You could see the "old" way of RAW coming back. The pre-Monday night war days.
After a time, WCW had a good number of people in WWE. Then it happened. The official death of WCW.
The NWO music comes on and Vince McMahon comes to the ring announcing that it would be the last time we hear the NWO music. They were no longer going to be known in the WWE. As well as the rest of the WCW themes and even the name WCW on the championship.
Since that day there have been some great matches in WWE. Occasionally they even shock us like when Mick Foley was thrown off the Hell in a Cell cage by the Undertaker.
But if you look at the WWE and what is happening, you see the future of the company is in serious doubt.
One of their best performers, Randy Orton, is being scripted as a coward. First he ran from Triple H, then in the PPV last night, he acted like he was scared to death to lock up with Batista.
Speaking of Batista, how can they give someone with no mic skills, and an uncanny ability to screw up his intro EVERY SINGLE TIME, the belt? Is he a transition champion to John Cena?
The Big Show - The largest athlete in the world, taps out to John Cena in a move that Cena has failed to apply every time he tries. Like Cena would be able to power out of a full nelson from Show.
They have the two hottest women on TV in Kelly Kelly and Maryse, and they left them off the PPV.
Can any body tell me what happened to the tag team division in WWE? I saw them on the back of my milk carton.
PUT JR BACK WITH THE KING!
Jerry Lawler is one of the best color man I have ever heard. JR makes him all that much better. I don't know why they would separate them, but JR needs to be back on RAW!
Remember the days of the NWO, and DX, and even the four horsemen?
When the faction would be scary to battle against? Sure Ted DiBiase is one day going to be great. But, lets be honest, if Cody Rhodes had any other name than Rhodes would he even be in WWE?
Did you see last week on RAW when Orton had Flair in the cage? As soon as Batista's music hit, Rhodes and DiBiase ran through the crowd like a drunk teenager getting caught in his girlfriends room at 3 AM.
Triple H is a true legend. I don't care that he is married into the McMahon family. He performs hard enough that he would be a legend anyway.
The only person on the roster that they have built enough to even compete with Triple H is John Cena, and how long do we all really want that fight to last. More than three months will be too much for any of us to handle.
Now there is talk that Vince wants to buy TNA. That is the worst thing that could happen to him.
The best thing that could happen is Jeff Jarrett convinces Spike TV to allow him to go head to head on Monday nights.
This will cause Vince and his writers to feel the panic they felt against WCW and it would make the product better than it has been since the wars.
I hope Vince realizes that WWE is less than six months from being un watchable.
The two friends I used to watch with every week don't even watch any more. It has gotten too boring.
I know for a fact, that they, along with a lot of other people would love to come back. As long as they can give them a product worth two hours of our time.
