National Signing Day 2014: Best Uncommitted Players Linked to Top Programs

Sean HojnackiFeb 4, 2014

Despite national signing day looming, some of the best high school football players in the country have yet to make up their minds. The upper crust of college football has recruiters diligently in pursuit, and these are the top five players they're after.

Adoree' Jackson, CB

Adoree' Jackson is without a doubt the best uncommitted player in the country. He only stands at 5'10", but he possesses fantastic ability in coverage and great instincts around the ball.

Jackson has a stack of offers before him, but he has only visited four schools. LSU and Florida State are the front-runners, but he also checked out Oklahoma and Tennessee according to ESPN.

Suddenly, Southern California seems to appeal to him as well, so his status is a complete tossup at the moment.

His personal Twitter account is quite entertaining and frequently used, so you can keep an eye on that for enlightenment.

Lorenzo Carter, DE

Lorenzo Carter is the best pass-rusher in the nation who is still without a definite landing spot. He has visited Florida, Florida State, LSU and Georgia per ESPN, so the SEC is likely to be in his future.

Carter is from Georgia, so staying in-state could make sense for the 5-star defensive end, but the Seminoles will draw a lot of water on the back of their national championship.

Malachi Dupre's most recent visits have been to Ole Miss and UCLA, but Florida State and Alabama remain almost every prospect's ideal schools. He has visited both, and LSU is also in the mix.

And football is not his only athletic endeavor. According to ESPN's Gerry HamiltonDupre won the "LHSAA state indoor high jump title with a leap of 6-7.25, breaking the 2A state record." He has also won state titles in the long jump, high jump and triple jump, which understandably make the 6'3" wide receiver a coveted target.

His father, Mike Dupre, detailed the difficulties in balancing basketball with track and field, let alone football:

"

His 10th-grade year, Malachi had a basketball game on a Friday night. Then, he had to go high jump the next day at the indoor state meet in Baton Rouge. He went home after the basketball game and iced his legs. He got up early the next morning and we went to Baton Rouge and he won the high jump, and set a state record.

"

But Malachi confirmed that football is his sport of choice, and some lucky college is sure to have him scoring touchdowns this year: "It was probably sophomore year when I realized football was the best fit for me. I have point-guard height in basketball and realized my athletic ability would be best in football...but I didn't realize I would turn out this good."

The triple jump is all well and good, but this kid appears set to focus on football, and his skills could certainly make him an NFL star one day.

Damian Prince, OT

It's actually frightening to think of someone being 6'5" and 286 pounds in high school, but that's the case with Damian Prince, an offensive tackle from Maryland. He has paid a visit to the University of Maryland, so he could be wearing the odd jerseys of the Terps.

Prince has also toured Florida State, South Carolina and Florida according to ESPN, and if the most recent visit takes it, then he will be a Gator in the fall.

Wide receiver Ermon Lane is from Florida. He has visited one school: Florida State.

While he hasn't committed, it would be stunning to see him choose any team other than the Seminoles.
