Arsenal Tweet Then Delete Arsene Wenger's Quote on Deadline Signing 80% Likely
Arsene Wenger, speaking in his regular Friday press conference, told journalists that while Julian Draxler was not coming to Arsenal, a deadline day signing was 80 percent likely.
It was duly reported by those assembled:
"Wenger says he confident of doing something today and estimates it 80:20
— Gary Jacob (@garyjacob) January 31, 2014"
"What I would say is that - playing Wenger transfer bingo - he'd never say "80 per cent" likely unless he was 100 per cent sure of a signing.
— John Cross (@johncrossmirror) January 31, 2014"
Such was the optimism of a new arrival that even Arsenal relayed the quotes on Twitter:
But all of a sudden they disappeared.
Presumably the reason was simply to temper any expectations from Gunners fans as the clock ticks down, but this is transfer deadline day, and if there's ever a time for a conspiracy theory to develop from a missing tweet, then this is it.
At the time of writing, the speculation seemed to have settled on midfielder Kim Kallstrom being the arrival to whom Wenger was referring.
"BREAKING: Arsenal are currently in talks to bring in Kim Kallstrom from Spartak Moscow #afc #DeadlineDay
— MailOnline Sport (@MailSport) January 31, 2014"
