Browns Fan Declines Super Bowl Tickets Until Cleveland Is in Super Bowl

Kyle NewportJan 29, 2014

Cleveland may be the most miserable city to be a sports fan, but that didn't stop one Browns fan from declining an incredible offer that most people would jump at.

Browns cornerback Joe Haden and Browns fan Rhett Wennes have apparently talked in the past, photo via Candice Vlcek:

"

True Cleveland fans realize how special IT will be @joehaden23 & I will have this moment again. #SuperBowl #GoBrowns pic.twitter.com/o7Ks2CUrnf

The relationship took an awesome turn when Haden offered Wennes plane tickets and two tickets to Super Bowl XLVIII.

Sounds good, right?

It wasn't a good enough deal for Wennes. That's a tough offer to decline, but you have to respect his loyalty to his team. He doesn't plan on going to a Super Bowl until his beloved Browns make it.

Given the team's recent history, he's taking a real risk. Cleveland has made the playoffs only one time (2002) since coming back to the NFL in 1999. The Browns haven't won an NFL championship since 1964, which was before the Super Bowl even existed.

Wennes' post did say that Haden's offer still stands, so maybe he should reconsider.

Smart or dumb move?
