1 Sentence Describing Every NFL Team's Nightmare Scenario 😱
Konoplyanka generally plays on the left side as an inverted winger, capable of dipping inside and letting rip with a strong right foot.
He's versatile, however, capable of playing either on the right side or as the No. 10 if called upon to do so. He appeared in 21 games (14 starts) for Dnipro in the Ukrainian Premier League last season, scoring seven goals, per WhoScored.com.
The winger is certainly in vogue. While Konoplyanka isn't on the level of other players capable of excelling in that role, such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar, Marco Reus or Arjen Robben, he has the potential to be a major headache for opposing right-backs.
It's not hard to see why Liverpool were so keen on his services during the January 2014 transfer window, per Chris Bascombe of the Daily Telegraph.
Of Konoplyanka's many excellent traits, the one that stands out the most is his blazing speed. When Ukraine faced England in a World Cup qualifier in September 2013, he terrorised English right-back Kyle Walker, a player renowned for his pace. According to Martin Keown of the Daily Mail, Konoplyanka's pace exceeded even Walker's.
Losing Konoplyanka is a major loss for Dnipro. One would guess the Ukrainian club will have a hard time replacing him, while Konoplyanka should quickly make himself a household name at his new club.
But the move has been a long time coming, and Konoplyanka now must prove he can threaten a stiffer level of competition and earn a regular place in the squad.
