Simply put, the Tigers need a win tonight.
Justin Verlander did everything in his power to hand the Tigers a win last night but the club’s stagnant offense and Fernando Rodney had other ideas.
Tonight, the Tigers other ace will take the mound. Edwin Jackson is third in AL in both WHIP and ERA and just continues to impress. However, the Tigers have often struggled to score when he is pitching.
Going for the Angels is Kelvim Escobar who has not appeared in a big league game since 2007 due to an injury. In his last full season, 2007, Escobar won a career high 18 games and had a pretty good ERA and strikeout total.
Escobar, a former reliever, has 20 career appearances against Detroit (nine of them starts) and has a record of 8-0 against the Tigers with a 2.30 ERA. Wow.
At Comerica Park he is 1-0 with no runs allowed in 11 career innings. No wonder the Angels chose this as his game to start his comeback. Magglio Ordonez is 10-24 (.417) in his career off of Escobar.
