The Detroit Cass Tech football star accused of attacking a security guard has been charged, online court documents obtained by the Free Press reveal.

Jayru Campbell, 17, a quarterback who is verbally committed to play college football at Michigan State, faces charges of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder and aggravated assault, according to the records online.

With one takedown of a security guard, Jayru Campbell could well have watched his college dreams go up in smoke.

A member of the Michigan State Spartans' 2015 recruiting class, the 3-star quarterback was videotaped body slamming a security guard to the floor at Cass Technical High School on Wednesday, Jan. 22.

There's no information yet to provide any sort of context as to why Campbell and the guard were involved in a physical altercation, but the grainy cell phone video shows the guard getting picked up in the air and thrown to the ground with a very audible thud.

It's damning evidence against the high school star. Police confirmed that it was in fact Campbell in the video.

Cass Tech head coach Thomas Wilcher remained vague as he told ABC 7 Action News in Detroit that Campbell did "get into trouble at school today."

This isn't the first time he's caused problems for himself. He has been suspended for the first game of the 2014 season following his punching of an opposing player in the handshake line after a playoff loss.

What this means for his commitment to Michigan State remains up in the air. He selected the Spartans back in August 2013, long before the handshake incident and this most recent indiscretion. As a result, Mark Dantonio could choose to rescind the scholarship offer. These are the kind of red flags that raise major questions for college coaches.
