Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski reports that an MRI reveals Rudy Gay has a strain and will be in a walking boot for the next 3-5 days:

---Original Text---

Sacramento Kings star Rudy Gay left the floor in the first quarter of Wednesday, Jan. 22's game against the Houston Rockets at the Toyota Center with a left achilles injury.

The Kings' official Twitter account reported on the ominous development and indicated that Gay would not return for the remainder of the evening:

This bad bit of news for Sacramento is especially crushing after Gay had matched his career high with 41 points in the team's most recent victory over the New Orleans Pelicans.

Sam Amick of USA Today was impressed with Gay's efforts, as he's averaged 21 points per game in 20 contests with the Kings:

HOOPSWORLD.com's Alex Kennedy was dismayed to hear that Gay went down:

Although the squad sported a 15-25 record entering Wednesday's action, Gay's arrival in a trade from the Toronto Raptors earlier this season has helped Sacramento become more competitive in the loaded Western Conference.

Gay is under contract through next season. Between him, DeMarcus Cousins and several other promising pieces, perhaps the Kings can figure out how to become consistent winners in the future with another high pick in the upcoming draft.
