The Oklahoma Sooners' Kendal Thompson apparently wants no part of another quarterback battle this spring.

On Tuesday night, the redshirt sophomore quarterback took his bow via Twitter, announcing his decision to transfer to another college football program:

Thompson, who is set to graduate in May, should have two more years of eligibility remaining due to special NCAA graduate rules.

Prior to last season, the Oklahoma City, Okla., native competed alongside fellow quarterbacks Trevor Knight and Blake Bell for the starting position. However, Thompson suffered a foot injury on the first day of fall camp, eliminating him from the running.

Although Knight eventually won the job, head coach Bob Stoops flipped back and forth throughout the season.

But during Oklahoma’s stunning Sugar Bowl victory over Alabama, 45-31, Knight appeared to grab the starting job by its horns. The redshirt freshman threw for 348 yards, four touchdowns and one interception on 32-of-44 passing.

Still, it was believed that there would be an open competition this offseason.

Along with Knight and Bell, Cody Thomas will enter the fray as a redshirt freshman. The Sooners will also welcome in 2014 4-star signee Justice Hansen.

A 3-star prospect out of Southmoore High, Thompson was most known for being the son of former Oklahoma quarterback Charles Thompson. He was also the No. 18-ranked dual-threat quarterback in the Class of 2011.

Over three seasons in Norman, Thompson played in two games, throwing for 64 yards, one touchdown and an interception on 4-of-13 passing.
