Cricket Fan Wins $100,000 After Unsighted Catch at New Zealand vs. India ODI

Mark PattersonJan 22, 2014

A fan watching New Zealand vs. India in the 2nd ODI in Hamilton took a quite breathtaking catch to win $100,000.

Corey Anderson walloped a six over long-on as New Zealand batted first, and the ball headed into the crowd.

Fans wearing special orange shirts have a chance of scooping $100,000 NZD (about £50,300), if they take a clean, one-handed catch in the crowd.

This fan managed it, which was all the more remarkable given how unsighted he was by the man in front of him (who wasn't wearing the shirt that would have made him eligible).

The commentators' excitement is clear, and the celebrations begin in earnest.

New Zealand went on to win the match and just for a bit of balance, it should be noted that the man of the match winner picked up a cheque for just $500.

"

Man of the match gets $500, guy who grabs a catch in the crowd gets $100,000 And you wonder why cricket isn't hot in New Zealand #NZvsInd
