Leave Brawn and Jenson Alone!

Patrick AllenJun 5, 2009

Throughout radio five live’s commentary of the Turkish Grand Prix practice, a fair few texts and messages were sent in complaining about the Brawn supremacy thus far.  One person even suggested that someone should push Jenson off the track, whilst another tried to argue that Jenson was simply a passenger in a fantastic car.

Well, first off, and I think I speak for all Honda fans here, for us this season is not boring! We have waited so many years for this, whilst being bored by Ferrari and McLaren dominance.  We have had encouraging seasons here and there, (2004 and sort of 2006), but largely nothing.  Frankly, after the woes of 2007 and 2008, I think we deserve some dominance!  I don’t actually think the races have been dull either! There has been action throughout the pack and yes, Jenson has won five out of six, but don’t forget he has fought for those victories!

I’m going to ignore the second question, as it’s frankly ridiculous.  Question three then. Why is it that people, (and I am strongly thinking of British people here), have to complain about everything? Last year Hamilton was the best thing since sliced bread; this year the poor guy is rubbish apparently!  Last year Jenson was an unfortunate guy in a poor car, then in the beginning of 2009, he was a great driver who deserved his success…..but now he is a talentless passenger in a quick team!!

Yes motor sport is more often than not 70% car, 30% driver, but to argue that Jenson is talentless is ridiculous! For starters, we could compare his performances with Rubens.  Jenson has out performed his team mate at practically every Grand Prix this season through his smooth driving skill, and the fact that, when it matters he did the job.

Of the drivers on the 2009 grid, only one truly doesn’t deserve to be there. They are all talented guys and yes many of them are unfortunate that their cars don’t reflect their skill.  That said, Jenson has proved he can handle the pressure and perform excellently.  Why don’t we stick Piquet in a Brawn and watch him win the title……simple answer, I don’t think Piquet would be able to bring the Brawn home!

Leave Brawn alone, and leave Jenson alone.   It is only round seven and it has been far from easy sailing so far!  Red Bull and Ferrari look very scary for the rest of the year, and Brawn were not that fast in the rain, nor have they got KERS yet.  At this stage I find it incredibly annoying having people complain. At Brawn, both driver and team have waited for this for years, and personally I think that it is great!  Long live the Brawn Supremacy!
