Barcelona Transfer News and Rumours Tracker: Week of January 20

Jason PettigroveJan 19, 2014

Just over a week left of this transfer window and the status quo of Tata Martino's Barcelona squad remains the same.

The likelihood of any incoming transfers is receding by the day, but there could be some movement out of players that remain on the periphery.

With two games a week for Barca for the foreseeable future, Martino needs a settled unit to pick from and any late changes in personnel may upset the equilibrium of what the manager is trying to achieve.

Despite Neymar's recent absence, Martino has no worries in the attacking areas, but a shortage of central defensive cover could prove problematic if anyone picks up an injury. This could tempt Martino into a last minute bargain.

Let's see who's been linked with the club recently, and remember to keep checking back throughout the week for updates.

—Last update: Saturday January 25—

Federico Fazio

Barcelona have been on the look out for an imposing central defender for the last few seasons.

It now seems that Tata Martino is ready to spend on Sevilla's Federico Fazio.

Sport newspaper (Spanish) - h/t InsdeFutbol - report that the 26-year-old is available for the bargain price of €10 million, which is well within Barca's budget.

At 1.95 metres, Fazio would be the tallest player in the Barca squad. Adept at dealing with the high ball, his value to the Blaugrana is obvious.

Alex Song

It would appear that Alex Song's days at Barcelona are numbered.

Following recent speculation concerning a bid from Rafa Benitez at Napoli, Jason Burt and Mark Ogden of the Daily Telegraph have revealed that the player was offered to Premier League champions Manchester United:

"

But although the club have been offered the chance to sign former Arsenal midfielder Alex Song from Barcelona, senior figures have ruled out a move for the Cameroonian international.

"

It's a clear indicator that Song is surplus to requirements in Catalonia, and it remains to be seen if he will be moved on before the end of the window.

Jean-Marie Dongou

Barcelona B's highly rated striker Jean-Marie Dongou could be on his way to the Premier League.

According to Jamie Sanderson of Metro, Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert is trying to engineer an ambitious loan deal for the player before the end of the transfer window.

Any deal would see the 18 year old plying his trade at Villa Park until the end of the season, and would allow Barca to monitor his development whilst playing at a higher level.

The player has been on the fringes of the first team this season but Tata Martino has only introduced him on the odd occasion.

Tello is an interesting one. I think Barcelona will listen to offers for him and Alexis.

If that's the case, then there will be offers. I know that Tello is willing to go.

Liverpool won't be the only team that want him.

It seems that Napoli are doing all they can to try and persuade Javier Mascherano to swap Catalonia for Italy.

The Barcelona defensive midfielder turned centre-back has long been part of Napoli boss Rafael Benitez's plans, and now his players are getting in on the hard sell.

According to Chris Myson and Joe Wright of Goal.com, Mascherano's Argentinian team-mate Gonzalo Higuain would welcome his compatriot with open arms:

"

We know it is hard to move in January but the director (Bigon) is doing everything possible.

Hopefully someone will come. We are doing well, but we could be helped to be better.

The fans would like to see a warrior like Mascherano arrive. Benitez knows him well from Liverpool. We will see.
