Report: Mike Zimmer Likely to Be Hired Today by Minnesota Vikings

Jason MarcumJan 14, 2014

Will he stay or will he go? And who will replace him?

The Cincinnati Bengals have been asking themselves these questions for perhaps the entire 2013 season about defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer.

He's been a head-coaching candidate for the majority of his tenure in the Queen City, and it now appears he'll finally get that chance from an NFL team.

That is, as long as the Minnesota Vikings are willing to hire him. The Detroit Lions just hired Jim Caldwell, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter, leaving only the Vikings and Cleveland Browns as teams without a head coach.

Well, it may only be the Browns by the time Tuesday ends, according to Jason La Canfora of CBSSports.com:

"Lions hired Jim Caldwell. Vikings very likely to hire Mike Zimmer later today. Would leave just the Browns, who want Gase as I've reported — Jason La Canfora (@JasonLaCanfora) January 14, 2014"

And he may already have his staff in mind:

"

Let's try this again: If Zimmer gets Vikings HC job, I expect him to target Lions OC Scott Linehan in that capacity & Paul Gunther [sic] as DC...

— Michael Silver (@MikeSilver) January 14, 2014"

If that's the case, then it's good to finally see Zimmer get what he deserves. He's certainly earned the right to be a head coach in the NFL, and it appears the Vikings will finally give him that opportunity.
