Roger Federer vs Juan Martin Del Potro: French Open Semifinals Preview
Roger Federer vs Juan Martin del Potro
2009 French Open Tennis—Semifinal Match Preview
Roger Federer
World No. 2 Roger Federer put his shaky display against Tommy Haas behind him to overcome 11th seed Gael Monfils in a convincing 7-6, 6-2, 6-4 victory.
En route to this semifinal meeting, Federer has not had the smoothest ride, dropping four sets so far against the likes of Haas, Paul-Henri Mathieu, and Jose Acasuso.
However, the quarterfinal win over Monfils has put Federer one step closer to claiming his first ever French Open title, and the Fed's confident display against the Frenchman has undoubtedly shown the former World No. 1 carries the belief in himself necessary to triumph at Roland Garros.

Juan Martin del Potro
Juan Martin del Potro, the fifth seed at this year's French Open, has continued his fine run with a resounding 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 victory over 16th seed Tommy Robredo.
The 20-year-old Argentinean has dropped only one set in the tournament so far, overcoming the likes of Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Igor Andreev, Viktor Troicki, and Michael Llodra to book this semifinal meeting with Federer.
Del Potro's performance at this year's Roland Garros is by far his best, with the World No. 5's prior best being a second round appearance last year.

Prediction
In head-to-head, Federer has a convincing 5-0 record over del Potro. Their last meeting took place at this year's Madrid Masters, where Federer was victorious 6-3, 6-4 in the semifinals.
In spite of his rapid ascension up the World ATP Rankings, it would appear del Potro has not yet reached the standard necessary to truly contest a match against Federer.
However, this meeting may well be del Potro's best chance to date to prove himself a worthy adversary of the 27-year-old Swiss maestro.
With Federer in shaky form, by his standards, and with del Potro hardly putting a foot wrong so far, we could be set for a classic match that goes all the way to the fifth set.
But if Federer continues from where he left off against Monfils, then this match may unfortunately be more one-sided than some have hoped for.
However, any slip-ups against del Potro would not likely go unpunished, so Federer will have to be at his absolute best in order to progress to his fourth consecutive French Open final.
Prediction: Federer in four sets.
