Liverpool Transfer News: Latest Rumblings for Reds

R. Cory SmithJan 12, 2014

Brendan Rodgers is known for making a splash in January, and he is looking to make one again. After signings in January boosted their second half last season, Rodgers is on the lookout for several players.

The Reds are on a three-game winning streak and are sitting in the coveted fourth spot in the standings after getting off to a great start. With Liverpool already playing at a high level, the club is in search of players that can add to the already talented roster and help maintain the team's success.

With the Reds' boss persistent about adding talent in the midseason signing period, here is the latest news being reported for the Premier League squad.

Will M'Vila Spurn Reds?

With their eye on talent, the Reds were looking to add Yann M’Vila after his agent said he expressed interest in a move to the Premier League. Rodgers rates M’Vila very high and has been working to sign the midfielder.

But despite Rodgers' efforts, they might not be paying off. M'Vila will reportedly sign with Napoli, according to Alan Wilson of Mirror Football.

While Wilson is reporting M'Vila will turn down the Reds for a spot with Napoli, Fabrizio Romano of Sky Sport is still speculating that the midfielder will talk Monday with Liverpool:

The talented midfielder has expressed his interest in playing in the Premier League multiple times and would make a wonderful addition to the Reds defense. Speculation is still swirling around M'Vila, but if the early reports are true, he could be leaning toward Napoli.

Liverpool Eyeing Georginio Wijnaldum

Following the possibility of missing out on M'Vila, the Reds are apparently looking at PSV Eindhoven midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum, according to Metro.

The club is ready to offer the PSV Eindhoven a deal worth around £9 million for the 23-year-old before the January window ends. Wijnaldum was reportedly being looked at by Arsenal over the summer but said he would not leave PSV Eindhoven.

Wijnaldum has been hindered by a back injury, but when he's been on the field, he's played well. He has scored 38 times during his career with the club, and he could be eyeing a move to the Reds.

If M'Vila does in fact sign with another team like Napoli over Liverpool, adding Wijnaldum could still be a huge pickup before the January window closes. While the attacking midfielder hasn't signed with Liverpool, there is certainly speculation that Rodgers has interest in the Dutch international.
