Turbulance For Jets: Can Week Two Make The Difference?

Joseph Caputo IIIJun 3, 2009

A win or a loss during week two in the National Football League does not declare any team "Super Bowl Champs", "Conference Champs", or even "Division Champs". This year though, week two may have a lot to do with how the season turns out for the New York Jets.

The New England Patriots have been the bully of the AFC East for the past several seasons, winning the division four of the last five years. If the New york Jets want to change this, first they must take care of business at home in week two against the New England Patriots.

The hype for the New York Jets this year, other then rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez, is about how improved the defense will be. Most analyst's are expecting the defense to be in the top ten, even top five according to some.

With all the chat coming from players on the Patriots team and the media, about how New England's offense could be better then it was in 2007, the New York Jets defense has to dominate. A win is a win, but the New York Jets must make a statement win.

The Jets defense must dominate the game and beat the snot out of the New England Patriots offense. That type of win will put the rest of the NFL on warning that the New York Jets are going to be the team Rex Ryan indicated they would be. A win like this will build confidence throughout the team. That confidence may be just what the New York Jets need to jump start them through the toughest part of the schedule.

Losing this game would not be the end of the season either. The Jets have started slow recently, and have made the playoffs on some of those occasions, but hopefully things change this year.

I believe though, that this is probably the most important game in the season for the New York Jets and may determine where they land when the season comes to an end.

With five of their first six games against the AFC and three of them being from the AFC East, that confidence will help Rex Ryan navigate the New York Jets on their flight to a division championship and hopefully much much more.
