Why Michael Vick Deserves a Second Chance

Evander OchoaJun 2, 2009

Most of you have probably gone back and forth on this issue with friends, relatives, or neighbors. Does Michael Vick deserve a second chance to play in the NFL?

I believe he does deserve a second chance and here is why. He has paid his debt to society, he did the time, and I believe that anyone that has to spend time in jail deserves a second chance.

People have said that getting out of jail and being a law abiding citizen is a second chance, and he has no right to come back and play in the NFL.

Honestly, there have been other incidents in the NFL, such as Ray Lewis' murder scandal. He was given a second chance to play in the league and clean up his image. People don't even think about that murder anymore because he got a second chance to prove himself, and I believe that's the fundamental principle on what our country was built on.

It's going to be hard for Michael Vick. He shouldn't think he can just come back. There will be a lot of skeptical teams that won't take a chance with him, and if and when he does comeback in the league, PETA will be on it like rabid wolves.

But Michael has to show genuine remorse as Roger Goodell stated, and if I was in the commissioner's shoes, I would be skeptical too, because he lied to the face of the commissioner and Arthur Blank. Even doing that, I think it will do the NFL more harm not letting Vick return. The majority of people say Vick has paid his debt to society and should return.

If it was up to me, he should get a four game suspension and then be allowed to return and play the game he loves, football.
