2014 U.S. Olympic Trials: Sunday Event Schedule, TV Info, Preview and More

Brian MaziqueDec 29, 2013

Sunday's U.S. Olympic trials schedule features speed skating and women's hockey from the Utah Olympic Oval in Kearns, Utah, and Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.

A good amount of star power will be on display for the United States in speed skating in Utah. An intense rivalry will be renewed in hockey in Minnesota.

Only the 500-meter race will take place on Saturday for both the men and the women in speed skating. In hockey, the American women take on the Canadians for the second time in eight days.

Athletes to Watch in Speed Skating

Men’s 500m

Shani Davis

Davis is a four-time Olympic medalist. He's entered in 1,000- and 1,500-meter events. He made history when he became the first black athlete from any nation to win a gold medal in an individual sport during the 2006 Winter Olympics.

He took the top podium spot in the 1,000-meters in Turin.

In a year when the United States isn't stacked with big-time stars or heavy favorites, Davis is probably the best bet to medal in his sport.

Women’s 500m

Heather Richardson

Richardson is a former inline skater from High Point, N.C., but she has made her presence felt on the ice. She has consistently improved since her sixth-place finish in the event at the 2010 Winter Games.

The 24-year-old has the potential to be a pleasant surprise for the United States. The 500-meters is her best event, so Saturday is crucial for her to establish momentum.

The Rematch of Rivals in Women's Hockey

 Last Meeting

When these two teams met on Dec. 20, the U.S. won 4-1, but the game also featured a large-scale brawl in the final seconds. When it was over, 10 players were in the penalty box.

There is a ton of pride involved when the U.S takes on Canada, and the emotions boiled over.

We're sure to see another spirited battle on Saturday as the two clash for placement in Sochi.
