Dwyane Wade Gives Miami Heat Teammates Odd Christmas Present

Dan FavaleDec 24, 2013

Dwyane Wade knows how to give a good Christmas gift—most of the time.

The Miami Heat superstar bestowed green jackets worthy of a Masters championship upon 12 teammates who won an NBA title with him last June.

Because the world needed to see 13 of Miami's finest dressed to the nines in green, Wade posted an Instagram photo of he and his brethren sporting their cucumber-skin-colored coats:

Fellow superstar LeBron James posted the same picture to his account with a descriptive caption detailing this momentous occasion:

"

@dwyanewade is in the giving mood tonight! Gave everyone from our championship team last year a green jacket reminiscing of the Masters! Unbelievably thought out! Fashion at the same time! Crazy! #TheHeatles #ChannelingOurInnerMastersAtGolf #RoleWithTheWinners #IsThisWhyTheyHateUs #HaveFunWithWhatYouDo

"

Fashionable? Really?

Really.

Discussing the thought process behind his attempt to spread Christmas cheer, Wade indicated he was trying to improve his teammates' wardrobes, per Bleacher Report's Ethan Skolnick:

"

I was just trying to do something different, and out of the norm. I started to think about what previous champions have done. (Rasheed Wallace) gave everybody (on the Pistons) the boxing belts. It came to me, because of fashion, and the Masters, and how amazing it is when they win the green jacket, and all the champions come back, and how prestigious it is. So I'm glad they liked it.

"

Though this was no doubt a generous gesture, these jackets are reminiscent of the musty Christmas sweaters that get worn once before collecting mothballs in the confines of your closet.

Look closely, and they also resemble varsity football letter jackets straight out of 1950. I cannot decide whether to wish the Heatles a Merry Christmas or congratulate them all on going steady.

Speaking of which, Wade hasn't been all Oscar the Grouch-tinged sheaths. Girlfriend-turned-fiancee Gabrielle Union nabbed an elephantine-cut rock after agreeing to marry Miami's shooting guard:

Wade also hit home runs with his other present-giving exploits, handing out $500 grocery and Visa gift cards to selected families, along with one other surprise, according to Skolnick.

"So I got one more surprise for you guys, but I'm not telling you guys right now."

Cue the procession of luxury vehicles that "arrived with gifts wrapped by his Wade's World Foundation."

Seriously.

This is a player who has succeeded in spreading truckloads of cheer this holiday season, each endeavor reminding us of Wade's immense generosity, which is worthy of commendation.

Next time, though, Dwyane, maybe leave the Green Lantern's street clothes at home.
