Donte Whitner said that he was not fined by the league for this hit, according to the San Francisco Chronicle's Eric Branch.

Larry Biel of ABC 7 didn't agree with the flag:

The Boston Globe's Zuri Berry was one of many who didn't like the call:
"So now it's unsportsmanlike conduct on Donte Whitner. That is just stupid. Another bad call in a bad week for the officials.

The penalty came on second down from the San Francisco 7-yard line.
Falcons running back Steven Jackson, who was hit on the play Whitner was flagged on, scored on the next play to give Atlanta a 7-3 lead in the second quarter.
