Hey Bloggers: Leave Mike Vick Alone

So the hoopla around Mike Vick's recent release reached ridiculous new heights on Memorial Day.

TMZ, the lowest of the low as far as I'm concerned, ran a story and pictures of Vick enjoying a barbecue on Memorial Day.

The implication was that house arrest was easy for Vick, and people should be outraged.

How dare he enjoy himself on house arrest? How does he have the gall to invite people over when he can't go outside?

Give me a freaking break.

Last time I checked, the conditions of his house arrest didn't require him to be miserable for the remainder of his sentence.

Anytime you write a piece about Vick that can in any way be construed as supportive, you have to add a disclaimer so the PETA folk don't jump all over you. So here's my statement.

(I'm pulling the form letter out of my pocket right now.)

Ahem.

What Vick did to those animals was horrible and should not be condoned. I hope that he learned the error of his ways and is truly rehabilitated. Commissioner Roger Goodell should do everything he can do to ensure Vick is truly sorry and has learned from crimes before giving him a second chance in the National Football League.

Not that we have that out of the way...

Seriously, what's next? TMZ would probably write a derogatory piece on Vick if he stayed in his house all day, because "he's not getting in touch with the people and animals he harmed."

Plus, how could the scumbag paparazzi get any pictures if he stayed inside? What an inconsiderate jerk.

Look, it was Memorial Day and he can't go anywhere. What do you want the guy to do?

I got to go to the beach last Monday. He couldn't go anywhere. It just stands to reason that his friends and family would have paid him a visit.

The "news outlet" reported that he was kissing one of his "baby mamas," and then made a crack about conjugal visits.

Oh my God. He kissed the mother of his child (or children, I don't know). Lock him up and throw away the key.

This story is a microcosm of how screwed up this society is. We have an unhealthy obsession with celebrity.

Because of that, we create the demand for this crap and allow schmucks like Harvey Levin to create TMZ, turn it into a household name, and make millions of dollars off of our stupidity.

Look, Vick did his time. He lost millions of dollars. His NFL future is in jeopardy. He is working construction at $10 an hour.

Heck, I'm just a lowly journalist, and even I make more than Vick right now.
