Alec NathanJun 8, 2018

The Sacramento Kings (7-15) defeated the Houston Rockets (16-9) 106-91 on Sunday night behind 26 points from Rudy Gay in his first game in front of the home crowd at Sleep Train Arena.

In addition to dropping a team-high 26 points on 50 percent shooting, Gay totaled five rebounds and four assists, leading a Sacramento attack that scored 14 fast break points.

DeMarcus Cousins put together a fine performance as well, posting a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds while dishing out five assists. Isaiah Thomas looked solid once again as the full-time starter at point guard, totaling a complete line consisting of 19 points on 7-of-12 shooting and a game-high eight assists.

After a 28-point first quarter, Houston's offense looked rather lethargic, and was outscored in the following three quarters by eight, two and five points.

James Harden led the Rockets with 25 points on 8-of-18 shooting, but left the game with six minutes remaining after battling through a sprained ankle that was suffered in the second period.

Dwight Howard posted yet another double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds, but was thoroughly outplayed by Cousins on the offensive end.

Chandler Parsons was steady throughout, contributing 17 points, seven rebounds and five assists, but was unable to shoulder the offensive burden in Harden's absence.

In addition to Harden's injury, the Rockets were undone by 16 missed free-throws (22-of-38) while the Kings converted on 25 of their 30 attempts from the stripe.

Houston will have two days off before hosting the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday while the Kings will travel to Charlotte for a meeting with the Bobcats on Tuesday.
