Ravens To Entrust More In Flacco

The Ravens playbook will be expanded this year to take advantage of Joe Flacco's skills, talent, and now experience.  With healthy Ravens receiver Demetrius Williams returning this season, this will also help the playbook expand.  Finally, with the signing of veteran center Matt Birk, the Ravens could be more explosive in all aspects of offense.

Year one under Coach Harbaugh could not have gone any better.  A rookie quarterback who is so successful that he guides the teams to two playoff road wins and an appearance in a championship game, a dream?  No, just an unexpected growth from a young quarterback who may be the second coming of Ben Roethlisberger.  What poise, talent, and confidence he showed last season and during the playoff run.

Demetrius Williams was expected to improve on his successful 2007 season of spectacular and long catches.  However, an ankle injury forced him out for the season.  This young receiver has the talent to make the rest of the NFL think of another state of Oregon product: Chad Ochocinco.  With Flacco throwing to him this can now become a reality.

When Jason Brown left the Ravens for a bigger paycheck in St. Louis, several reporters wondered what Ozzie Newsome was doing.  Brown was a gem discovered in a later round of the draft and Newsome was confident that he would find another gem, but also knew that a free agent such as Matt Birk could be an excellent, if not better fill-in until that next gem matures.  Birk has the experience of being a Pro Bowler and blocking for the best running back in football in Minnesota.

With these changes, the Ravens can successfully except to be better in an offense that is growing under a young quarterback, a receiver who has excellent potential, and a veteran lineman who is better than the young lineman who left.  Yes, Ravens fans do go "wacko for Flacco" even more.
