Seven Questions With Rookie Pat White

Rudolph ZepedaMay 29, 2009

Last year the Miami Dolphins took the league by surprise with a formation called the “Wildcat”.

This formation could create NFL job opportunities for duel-threat quarterbacks and reinvent the position.  Enter Pat White, a four-year starter at the University of West Virginia who set NCAA records for rushing yards by a quarterback and led his team to 38-9 record.

I sat down with Pat to discuss his future with the Dolphins and what it could mean to the future of the NFL.

  1. You were very successful in college at West Virginia running the spread offense; will anything you learned from that offense help you in the “Wildcat” formation?
  2. Many NFL scouts wanted you to switch from quarterback to wide receiver but you went to the combine and worked out as a quarterback.  Do you think you can be successful as a running quarterback or will you try to focus on becoming more of a passing quarterback?
  3. Who are your favorite NFL quarterbacks and why?
  4. How much have you learned about the “Wildcat” since you arrived in Miami?  What is your favorite aspect of the formation?
  5. It is no secret that the Dolphins are grooming Chad Henne to be their future quarterback.  Do you want to change that?
  6. If you are successful this year it could create a new formation that every team will look to copy.  The result could be more running quarterbacks contributing on NFL rosters.  Do you think this formation could reinvent the quarterback position?
  7. Where do you see yourself in two years?  Starting quarterback or a formation substitution?

Thank you for taking some time to answer my questions and good luck to you this season.
