TNA World Cup 2013: Match Card, PPV Info and Spoiler-Free Preview

Jun 8, 2018

TNA’s One Night Only on-demand pay-per-views have not been the overwhelming success the company had hoped, but this month’s World Cup of Wrestling event has the potential to be one of the most interesting to date.

The World Cup premise pits four teams against each other in a series of heavyweight, X Division, tag team and knockout matches. The two teams that amass the most points over the course of the show will square off in a main event eight-man elimination tag team match to crown the winner.

The four competing squads represent the United States, the United Kingdom, Team International and the Aces & Eights. While the involvement of the heel stable as a member of the World Cup tournament is unusual, it will add an element of unpredictability to the show.

Full Predictions for All Scheduled Matches

In the opening match of the night, one of the brightest stars in TNA today and Team UK captain Magnus will take on Mr. Anderson of the Aces & Eights. While this feels like a blast from the past, this PPV was filmed before the heel group’s disbandment. Magnus will win the match clean as a result.

Kenny King hasn’t been seen on television for months, but he will represent Team USA against Sonjay Dutt of Team International. This should be the best technical match of the night, and King will showcase why he is one of the brightest stars in the business by taking the victory.

Team International’s Lei'D Tapa will destroy Hannah Blossom of Team UK for an easy win.

While D.O.C. and Knux of the Aces & Eights will likely get the victory for their faux nation, hardcore TNA and general wrestling fans will enjoy an excellent showcase of skill from Team International's Funaki and Petey Williams. Too bad they’ll be glorified jobbers.

Wes Brisco will defeat Rockstar Spud in another squash match to get Aces & Eights points late in the tournament so the stable makes the final match.

The most entertaining match of the night will be a classic tag team battle between Team USA’s Bad Influence (Christopher Daniels and Kazarian) and Team UK's British Invasion (Douglas Williams and Rob Terry). All participants are veterans of the business and know how to put on a fun match with plenty of interesting spots and crowd involvement. This is the most underrated bout on the card.

Mickie James will beat Aces & Eights’ representative Ivelisse because this woman was never even in the gang. C’mon man!

The final singles match of the night will be a violent affair between James Storm and Team International's Judas Mesias. If there was any match on this card that a fan would be most likely to see blood, it would be this battle of hardcore kings.

Main Event Preview and Prediction

After the preliminary matches are over and it becomes clear that Team USA (four points) will take on the Aces & Eights (two points), this eight-man elimination tag team main event should actually be very entertaining.

While the lack of involvement from the women on their respective teams is a bit disheartening, the likely teams of Daniels, Storm, Kazarian and King squaring off against D.O.C., Knux, Mr. Anderson and Brisco looks to be an intriguing battle.

As much as TNA should want to send the crowd home on a positive note, the way Team USA will win during the buildup matches likely indicates that the Aces & Eights will steal the main event victory. Add in Mr. Anderson’s predicted loss to start the night, and the heel stable will have the last laugh.

The gang was still relevant in storylines when this PPV was taped, and putting them over at a small event like this wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility. If the now-defunct gang wins the World Cup of Wrestling, fans will lose all faith in the fictitious honor.

Predicted Winner: Aces & Eights
