Transfer Rumour Rater: Danny Ings to Liverpool in the January Window

Mark JonesMay 31, 2018

The injury to Daniel Sturridge which has rocked Liverpool also threatens to derail the Reds' push for a top-four finish, and inevitably it has led to many questioning just why Brendan Rodgers' side are so light up front.

Iago Aspas is making his way back from injury, and Fabio Borini is currently out on loan at Sunderland, but beyond those two, there isn't much back-up for the club's premier forwards, Sturridge and Luis Suarez.

That could all be about to change according to the Daily Mirror, though, with the publication claiming that the Reds have an interest in Burnley's free-scoring England Under-21 forward Danny Ings, who could be receptive to a move to Anfield in January.

Ings has been in terrific form since joining the Clarets from Bournemouth in 2011, scoring 15 goals this season as Burnley have chased promotion back to the top flight, having last played in it in the 2009/10 season.

The forward also made his England Under-21 debut this season, featuring in a 4-0 win at San Marino in October before scoring twice against the same opponents in a 9-0 victory in Shrewsbury last month.

Whether or not he'd want to give up guaranteed first-team football for the Anfield bench is up for debate, though, and this would certainly be one of the more surprising moves of the January transfer window were it to happen.
