Can The Lakers Put Up The Effort To Beat Denver?

Isaac FerminMay 28, 2009

Game 6 of the Western Conference Finals will be played at the Pepsi center in Denver, and the Lakers have a 3-2 lead against Denver. Don't be fooled with that lead, the Lakers don't have the advantage in this series, The Nuggets have. The Lakers are the most talented team but not the one that puts up the most effort. Denver gets effort from every guy in their team, even the 12th man. The Lakers get effort from one player and that's Mr. Kobe JellyBean, Bryant. I don't think the Lakers will win game 6 because they have shown us that when they have won a game in the playoffs, they don't put the effort to win the next. Biggest example of this was the series against Houston, Game one was a loss not because Kobe was sick, (Him getting the flu was not an excuse) but it was the lack of intelligence and effort that made them lose and the Rockets took advantage of that. Game 4 was an embarrassment because Houston had no Yao Ming and No Tracy McGrady in the active roster and the Lakers lost in a blowout, putting little to no effort at all. Game 6 was the exact same thing as in game 4 but in my mind it was a worse loss because you would think the Lakers would learn their lesson, and especially after a 40 point win against Houston in game 5. People have these high expectations for the Lakers and rightfully so, but my problem with these "experts" in ESPN and TNT, is that they talk about the Lakers as if they're a team full of veteran players who've been in the league for at least 8 years, but that's not the case. The Lakers are a young team, the oldest player in that team is Derek Fisher who turns 35 in august, the second oldest player is Kobe turning 31 in august. Everybody else is under 30 and not barely; Bynum (22 in October), Farmar (23 in November), Ariza (24 in June), Brown (24 in November), and Vujačić (25). Those guys are rotation players for this team and when you have a core that young, you'll expect them to be immature mentally and that's what the team is. If the Lakers are to win this series against Denver they have to put an effort defensively and they have to play smart offensively. Defensively they have to do it with consistency and Offensively you give the ball to Pau Gasol, Lamar Odom, and Andrew Bynum in the inside. There's another reason why Andrew hasn't played well, he hasn't played as many minutes as he should and because he's been in foul trouble. People say this is a must win for Denver, actually it's a must win for Los Angeles because home court doesn't matter, Denver has beaten the Lakers at Staples and they can do it again in a game 7 so the Lakers better win this game or Else.

The game will be 6:00 P.M. Pacific 9:00 Eastern in ESPN.
