Brock Lesnar...Powerless?

Marco YanitelliMay 28, 2009

Many fans have already spoken up about the possibility that Brock Lesnar lacks power in his strikes. He has a very rapid punching style that begs the question—how many psi is involved and what is the effect during an MMA match?

Frank Mir was quoted as saying “He hits you 50 times but there is no power in them. Fighting Brock is like being pushed by a car moving five miles per hour. Sure its strong and can move you but I’m much more afraid of a fast moving baseball bat.

Lesnar’s engagement with Heath Herring did little to change this line of thinking. He mercilessly beat Heath Herring for 15 mins, but could not KO or TKO him. He has no power.

Herring has fought Nog more than once and lost, so its not like Heath is some kind of Iron punching bag.

Brock Lesnar’s lack of power was displayed once again when he fought for the title. It took him almost 10 minutes to beat down a man who hadn’t fought in 15 months, was 50lbs lighter, and seemed to be 100 years old.

It is this writer’s opinion that Brock Lesnar is a two-dimensional fighter. He has phenomenal wrestling and speed, as well as great cardio and strength. He has no power in his punches, though, cannot throw a kick to save his life, and has no ability to defend against submissions.

For these reasons, and also the fact that Mir already fought Brock and felt his power, this writer predicts a Frank Mir victory via submission.

Many fans think it would be a great thing for the sport—and also good for Brock. He needs more experience and I’m sure one day he will be more well rounded but for now he’s just a big Matt Hughes.

That is the greatest comparison written yet—Brock really IS just a big Matt Hughes.

For your entertainment I’ve included the following two links. I hope they help stir the pot because they both really make you think

This first one is Frank Mir discussing Brock’s power

This one is 30 seconds of Footage of Brock Lesnar following his loss to Mir. Is it just me, or does he look like he’s going to cry? Seriously, he was pretty dejected.
