Liverpool Transfer News and Rumours Tracker: Week of November 25

Karl MatchettNov 25, 2013

Liverpool's transfer rumours are always worth keeping an eye on as the transfer window draws closerโ€”if only for the quantity, rather than always quality, of the players involved.

Here's a complete rundown of every major rumour involving the Reds, which will be updated every day during the weekโ€”so check back regularly to keep up to date.

We start off with two younger talents being looked at by the Reds, along with a senior French international midfielder.

Most recent update: November 29.

Ian Ayre Discussing Martin Montoya Deal with Barcelona?

1 of 9

Friday, 29 November

The big news surrounding Liverpool in the transfer market on Friday is the suggestion that Ian Ayre is in Spain attempting to negotiate an early deal for Barcelona defender Martin Montoya.

The full-back, who can operate on both sides, is out of contract at the end of the current season and it seems the Reds are trying to tie up a deal in January rather than wait until the summer and risk other clubs jumping in to sign Montoya on a free.

Andy Hunter of theย Guardianย reportedย that Ayre was meeting Barรงa representatives to discuss the deal, while the story was quickly picked up by theย Mirror,ย Express andย Liverpool Echo as well.

B/R's Max Munton details how the potential signing of Montoya could redress the balance on either side of the Reds' defence.

Ivan Rakitic a Target Once More

2 of 9

Thursday, 28 November

Liverpool's search for a midfielder looks like stepping up with the signing of Croatian Ivan Rakitic, according to Ben Jefferson of theย Express.

The Reds aren't the only interested party, with Chelsea and Manchester United also looking to sign the 25-year-old, who Sevilla rate at around ยฃ13 million.

Rakitic can play anywhere across the attacking midfield line or deeper in midfield, but is particularly effective as a central player. He has seven goals and five assists from his 13 La Liga appearances this term.

Liverpool Target Another Chelsea Player

3 of 9

Thursday, 28 November

Another Liverpool target for January is apparently Chelsea's left-back Ryan Bertrand, as per John Percy and Jason Burt ofย the Telegraph.

The Blues' left-back has rarely featured this term, with Ashley Cole and more recently Cesar Azpilicueta the main players for that role under Jose Mourinho, and despite only signing a new contract last year, Bertrand may be allowed to leave for around ยฃ8 million.

Liverpool are without Jose Enrique until about February after knee surgery, while Aly Cissokho has not impressed while on-loan from Valencia.

Arda Turan on Reds' Radar Once More

4 of 9

Wednesday, 27 November

David Wright ofย the Express reports that Liverpool are set to make a massive bid for Atletico Madrid's Arda Turan in January.

The rather extortionate price of ยฃ33 million is mentioned, Turan's buy-out clause fee, as he recently signed a new, extended deal with the Primera Division side.

Quite why Turan would be ready to jump ship from a hugely impressive Atleti side looking ready to challenge for La Liga title this term is anyone's guess, but the Reds and Manchester United are reported to be looking at the Turk once again.

Cabaye Calling for CL Football, Liverpool a Possible Destination

5 of 9

Wednesday, 27 November

Newcastle United's Yohan Cabaye seemed set for a move away last summer, only for his club to demand a far higher price than Arsenal were apparently willing to pay.

Nick Lustig of theย Daily Star now reports that Liverpool, as well as the Gunners, would like to bring him in over the next transfer windowsโ€”though Cabaye wants Champions League football, which would rule out the Reds in January.

There would be little doubt, however, that he would be a good addition to the Reds' squad.

Suarez Recommends Uruguayan Forward Kevin Mendez

6 of 9

Tuesday, 26 November

Liverpool's current forward Luis Suarez has apparently recommended that the club sign compatriot Kevin Mendez, currently playing for Peรฑarol in their home country of Uruguay.

Mendez is 17 years old and is being watched, says John Cross ofย Mirror Football, by Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan as well as Liverpool.

ยฃ3 million is the quoted price for the teenage striker.

Ryan Gauld Targeted by Reds and United

7 of 9

Monday, November 25

Liverpool are almost certain to continue investing in youth prospects over the coming windows and years, and one of the UK's brightest talents at present is Dundee United midfielder Ryan Gauld.

Ed Maylon ofย Mirror Football reports that the Redsโ€”along with Manchester Unitedโ€”were watching the ยฃ6 million-rated 17-year-old against Partick Thistle at the weekend, where he claimed all four assists in a 4-1 win for his team.

Yann M'Vila Rumours Continue

8 of 9

Monday, 25 November

Yann M'Vila was in attendance at Liverpool's 3-3 derby draw with Everton at the weekend, apparently visiting friend Mamadou Sakho.

That hasn't stopped rumours from starting up once more over a potential move to Anfield in January, with Metro'sย Jamie Sandersonย intimating that the Rubin Kazan midfielder is high on Brendan Rodgers' wish list.

His agent is reported to have acknowledged that many Premier League clubs are monitoring M'Vila's progress.

Will Hughes, Derby County

9 of 9

Monday, 25 November

Derby County midfielder Will Hughes has been generating plenty of column inches for his performances over the past 12 months, with Liverpool one of the clubs supposedly in the frame for his signature.

The England under-21 player has not, however, sealed a move to the Reds yetโ€”that's the word fromย Mirror Football'sย Tom Hopkinson, who reports that Derby's recent naming-rights deal for their stadium means Hughes will remain in place a while longer.

He's rated at around ยฃ12 million and has scored three goals in 15 games this season.
