San Francisco 49ers cornerback Tramaine Brock was signed to a four-year contract extension on Friday.

The team's official Twitter account reported the news, noting that the new deal runs through the 2017 season:

Brock was an undrafted free agent who signed with San Francisco in 2010 out of Belhaven College, but he stuck on the roster and has since made himself a fixture for the Niners' vaunted defense in the secondary.

According to the 49ers' website, general manager Trent Baalke shared some kind words regarding Brock's ascent into a productive player after having zero NFL teams give him a shot on draft day:

Tramaine is a great example of what hard work and dedication can lead to. He has taken advantage of his opportunities since signing with our team as an undrafted free agent in 2010 and has certainly earned this extension.  Extending the contracts of our young and talented players has always been, and will continue to be, one of our primary goals.

According to NFL.com, Brock has only made one career start, which came this year, yet the Niners are making sure he is around for the foreseeable future.

Baalke has done a masterful job assembling talent for what has been arguably the NFL's best defense over the past three seasons.

Brock is being paid as a solid starter despite his typical role as a nickelback. However, he will replace an injured Tarell Brown in the starting lineup for San Francisco's Week 12 Monday night game against the Washington Redskins, per ESPN.com's Bill Williamson.

Also pointed out by Williamson is the fact that Brock took over for former superstar Nnamdi Asomugha in the nickel cornerback role in Week 4 and never relinquished the position. It is noted, too, that Brock's contract is worth $16 million, including $7 million in guaranteed money.

The 25-year-old Brock is tied with Brown for the team lead in passes defensed with nine and leads the Niners with four interceptions this season.
