Spain now know what it will take to repeat as world champions and win their fourth major international trophy in a row. It would be a testament to La Roja's incredible talent if they manage to be the last team standing.
In addition, Brazil know what lies in front of them as they try to exorcise the ghosts of 1950 and win the World Cup on home soil. There were plenty of questions surrounding Luiz Felipe Scolari's side, but after a stellar Confederations Cup, the hosts are among the favorites to win.
Thirty other teams will be looking to lift the World Cup trophy. The competition is often a measuring stick for the greatest legends in the game, so players like Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Radamel Falcao, Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery will be looking to bolster their individual legacies.
