Fantasy NASCAR Report: Dover
Here are my five picks for drivers that will bring home solid finishes for your fantasy team this weekend at the Monster Mile in Delaware.
Carl Edwards
Carl has always been a consistent driver on the concrete mile and his team has consistently brought good equipment to Dover, as seen last year when he and teammates Greg Biffle and Matt Kenseth were battling for the win.
Edwards has nine career starts at the Monster Mile and owns one win, five top fives, and nine top 20s, with no DNFs. His worst finish (18th) came in his Dover debut in the fall of 2004.
Kyle Busch
When can you not consider putting this guy on your roster? He is pulling triple duty this week which yes may mean a lot of wear and tear on him come Sunday, but I think this week the extra track time will only help Busch come Sunday.
Busch only has two career DNFs at Dover, spring 2008 and fall 2006, both due to engine problems. Aside from that he owns one win, five top fives, and a 17th place finish in eight career starts at Dover.
Martin Truex Jr.
Martin has been having a tough season and the rumors are already abound of the possibility of him leaving EGR for one of a few different teams and if EGR wishes to have a chance of retaining him they better make sure they bring their best piece to the track this weekend.
Truex won this race back in the 2007 campaign and justifiably should expect to be a threat to win this race again. Frankly if his car isn't a piece he feels like he can win in then it should be the final sign he needs to leave EGR.
Jeff Burton
Sure RCR has been struggling of late and Jeff Burton is just the driver to turn this program around and turn at least two of their teams into Chase contenders, since Casey Mears doesn't have what it takes and Kevin Harvick is almost mathematically out of contention.
Burton's worst finish at the Monster Mile since 2005 is a mere 12th place (twice) and includes a win during the fall race of 2006. Look for Burton to have RCR's best piece and notes from all three of his teammates in an effort to reboot this program for the rest of 2009.
Underdog: Mike Skinner
Yeah that's right I'm going with Mike Skinner. It's a risky pick since the Tommy Baldwin owned team is not in the top 35, but I believe Skinner's experience combined with Baldwin's knowledge will put this team into the field and with some luck in the top 20 at the drop of the checkered flag.
Last Week: Coca Cola 340.5
Was expecting a little more out of my picks and I feel that had the rains not come when they did, guys like Tony Stewart and Matt Kenseth would of put up a fight for the top five.
Besides, who saw David Reutimann winning that race? Not even me and I like Reutimann.
Tony Stewart: 19th
Matt Kenseth: 10th
Ryan Newman: Second
Kyle Busch: Sixth
AJ Allmendinger: 32nd
