NFL Week 12 Picks: Teams Sure to Win This Weekend

Kyle NewportNov 19, 2013

This week's NFL slate has some mismatches on paper, and Detroit is one team that is sure to win this weekend.

Although Week 12 features several intriguing matchups, a few games may be over early. Whether they involve playoff teams against inferior opponents or just bad teams, some games shouldn't provide much intrigue.

A few teams on this list are fighting for their playoff lives. Another is playing for pride at this point. Luckily, all of these teams are playing against some of the worst teams in the league.

Detroit Lions (vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers)

Detroit is coming off a tough loss in Pittsburgh, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are on a two-game winning streak. If this game were in Tampa Bay, the Buccaneers might have a shot.

The Lions are 6-4 and 3-1 at home. Their only home loss came on a last-second field goal, so they are incredibly tough to beat in Detroit.

Tampa Bay has won two straight games, but both came at home against struggling teams. They have played much better in recent weeks, but they don't have the offensive firepower to keep up with Calvin Johnson.

Matthew Stafford has been able to find Johnson a lot recently. The superstar wideout is averaging 186.5 yards over the last four games and has seven touchdowns. Those are ridiculous numbers.

Buccaneers corner Darrelle Revis will have his hands full, and Johnson will find a way to keep putting up monster numbers.

Prediction: Detroit Lions 28 - Tampa Bay Buccaneers 14

Houston Texans (vs. Jacksonville Jaguars)

The Houston Texans are riding an eight-game losing streak, so this game couldn't have come at a better time. They switched back from Case Keenum to Matt Schaub this week, and their quarterback situation is a mess.

Luckily, Andre Johnson is putting up big numbers, and the Jacksonville Jaguars are coming to town.

Johnson has averaged 111.8 yards per game the last five weeks, and he has four 100-yard games this season. The Jaguars rank 24th against the pass, so this matchup favors the Texans offense.

When things are going badly, playing the Jaguars is a good thing. Jacksonville has lost nine games by an average of 21.2 points. Houston has scored at least 23 points in each of its last three games, so there is still potential for big numbers by the offense.

This is the perfect time for the Texans to take out their frustrations.

Prediction: Houston Texans 31 - Jacksonville Jaguars 10

Chicago Bears (at St. Louis Rams)

The Chicago Bears have played their fair share of close games this season, but Week 12 should be easy for them.

The St. Louis Rams are coming off a huge win over the Indianapolis Colts followed by a bye week, so they have some positive momentum. However, this game means much more to the Bears.

Chicago is tied atop the NFC North at 6-4. The Bears have averaged 35 points per game on the road, so playing away from home doesn't stop them from putting up points. They have alternated wins and losses the past six games, but that streak will end this week.

On offense, there is just too much to handle. Running back Matt Forte has averaged 115.5 total yards in his last four games. Receivers Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery each have over 800 receiving yards on the season and have combined for 11 touchdowns.

If the Bears can contain Tavon Austin, St. Louis won't have much of a chance in this game.

Prediction: Chicago Bears 24 - St. Louis Rams 13
