A Playbook for the Future—A Guide for Ken Whisenhunt

For Ken Whisenhunt, the 2009 season will be a chance to try something new with the Arizona Cardinals.

With a solid group of starters returning, as long as their contracts are worked out, Whisenhunt should be able to build upon the former tactics of last season, and hopefully, lead the Cardinals to another winning season.

Kurt Warner will be a part of this core attack. Starting the latter 11 games of the 2008 season and leading the Cardinals to the Super Bowl seems like a warm-up for this season as the Cardinals look to go back to the playoffs and finish what they started last year.

The addition of a running game will also take some of the pressure off of Warner and his wide receivers. Chris Wells was drafted out of Ohio State in April and looks to help the Cardinals gain a much needed running game this season.

The mixture of Warner, Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald at wide receiver's, and Wells at running back will help to set them apart from other opponents in the NFC West.

Wide receivers like Boldin and Fitzgerald were prominent in the fight towards the Super Bowl last time around, and one can only hope that they are just as effective this time around.

Fitzgerald, who was named Pro Bowl MVP last season, will be a targeted by the defenses of other teams—most notably Seattle's Aaron Curry the number four overall pick in the draft and one of the strongest players coming into the NFL at outside linebacker.

Hopefully the addition of Wells at running back will take much of the pressure off of the throwing game off of both players and coaches as a second, just as likely, option has been shown in this draft pick.

If all goes according to plan, the Cardinals should set themselves up for another season in the top of the NFC West with an all star offensive team.
