Grand Slam of Darts 2013 Results: Daily Scores, Updated Schedule and More
The seventh edition of the Grand Slam of Darts will take place at the Wolverhampton Civic Hall from Nov. 9-17, with Phil Taylor aiming to clinch an unprecedented fifth crown.
The Englishman won the cross-code event in 2007, ‘08, ‘09 and ‘11 before being knocked off his perch last year by the young Dutchman, Michael van Gerwen.
The 24-year-old went on to lose a 16-14 heartbreaker to compatriot Raymond van Barneveld in the final, and he will be eager to go one step further this year.
The Grand Slam is unique in that it brings together competitors from both the Professional Darts Corporation and the British Darts Organisation.
The round-robin format means there will be some exciting matchups in the opening few days of play as only two from each group will advance to the knockout rounds.
Taylor has looked in impressive form this season, and he will be eager to right the wrongs of his early exit last year. He comes into the event with six titles to his name in 2013, and the world No. 1 will be the favourite to regain his crown.

Day 9: Final
1 of 6
Final Result - Sunday, Nov. 17
Phil Taylor 16-6 Robert Thornton
Phil Taylor picked up his latest title of the season at Wolverhampton Civic to declare himself "gobsmacked" at his success, according to PDC.tv:
"It was a tough field and this wasn't an easy title to win. It's been a very tough day and a long day ... I'm very chuffed with the whole tournament because it's been a great event.
The atmosphere's been great, the crowd have been great and some of the players have really come back to form, like Robert, James Wade and Gary Anderson. The players are all building up to the World Championship, and I've got an eye on that too.
"
Beaten finalist Robert Thornton didn't get off to the best of starts in the tournament finale, beginning rather sluggishly to fall 5-0 behind Taylor who was more than ready to pounce on his errors.
Such a deficit left the Scot with an uphill struggle and he was never able to catch The Power as he cantered to a 16-6 finish, winning the final four legs and with them his fourth successive major televised title.
Day 9: Semi-Finals
2 of 6
Semi-Final Results - Sunday, Nov. 17
Robert Thornton 16-9 Scott Waites
Phil Taylor 16-9 Adrian Lewis
Phil Taylor's semi-final with fellow Stoke resident Adrian Lewis has already been dubbed one of the greatest darts matches ever, with The Power seeing off his young contender 16-9 at Wolverhampton Civic to reach the final.
It was a gargantuan tussle that saw a PDC record of 32 maximums with Lewis claiming 18 of them and averaging 110.99 (according to the official PDC website) in a performance that would have arguably won any game at this is or any other tournament.
The beaten semi-finalist spoke to PDC.tv after the match:
"I don't feel as though I've lost - but if you average 111 there's probably only Phil Taylor who can beat you. I'm still in shock but Phil was fantastic. He's the best living sportsman in my eyes and it was a pleasure to be on stage with him today.
"
That's the best match I've ever been involved in and Phil said the same to me at the end. I missed a couple of doubles but they couldn't have been any closer and Phil did what he does best, he punished me.
Robert Thornton also bought his ticket to the final with a 16-9 victory over Scott Waites, pushing off into an early lead that his opponent never really recovered from.
He will be hoping that Taylor's heroics against Lewis will come back to haunt him in the final, with Thornton needing every single margin to defeat The Power given his current form.
Day 8 Recap
3 of 6
Quarter-Final Results - Saturday, Nov. 16
Phil Taylor 16-12 James Wade
Kim Huybrechts 10-16 Adrian Lewis
Day 7 Recap
4 of 6
Quarter-Final Results - Friday, Nov. 15
Tony O'Shea 6-16 Robert Thornton
Ted Hankey 10-16 Scott Waites
In another clash of former Lakeside winners, the 2010 champion Scott Waites was able to overcome two-time champ Ted Hankey to gain entry to the semi-finals where he will face Robert Thornton.
The Scot wasted no time in dispatching Tony O'Shea and will be an intimidating prospect for Waites to face in the next round.
Yet Waites didn't have an easy time of it in the quarters, with Hankey sharing the opening four legs before the heavyweights began to trade blows and periods of dominance to take it to 16-10 before it was out.
Thornton's victory over O'Shea was rather more comprehensive, recording the highest average of the night (95.3 according to the official PDC.tv website).
He spoke to PDC.tv after confirming that he would make it, for the first time, to a semi-final at Wolverhampton Civic:
"It's a very big win for me and I'm really happy with that.
To win by a scoreline like that against Tony is great because he keeps coming back at you.
"
I was a little bit patchy at times but I've been pretty consistent this week and you need to do that in an event like this. It would rank very highly for me if I can go on and win this now.
Standing in his way will be Waites, who told PDC.tv, "we'll get on with our darts on Sunday and it will be a great game, and whoever takes their chances will win."
Day 6 Recap
5 of 6
Round of 16 Results - Thursday, Nov. 14
James Wade 10-1 Paul Nicholson
Ronny Huybrechts 5-10 Kim Huybrechts
Phil Taylor 10-5 Gary Anderson
Michael van Gerwen 8-10 Adrian Lewis
World No. 6 James Wade wiped the floor with Paul Nicholson 10-1 in the most dominant win on Day 6, firing the 2010 Grand Slam runner-up into a quarter-final showdown with four-time winner Phil Taylor.
Taylor is the only man whose career eclipses Wade's achievements with the Professional Darts Corporation, and looked in impressive form as he broke down a stubborn and defiant Gary Anderson to win 10-5.
Having drawn the first eight legs 4-4, Anderson finally lost his grip on the match with Taylor in no mood to show his opponent any mercy. Following his triumph however, "The Power" told Sky Sports of his battle to overcome the Scot.
"Gary said to me 'I'm on my way back' and I believe him as well. He played superb there, trust me. The only thing you can do with Gary is hope he misses doubles, that's the only thing you can do when he scores the way he does.
"
Day 6 also saw a spot of sibling rivalry as Ronny and Kim Huybrechts went head-to-head at Wolverhampton Civic.
The younger Huybrechts, Kim, came out on top in the end, firing home eight 180s as he overcame sentiment and the occasion to demolish his brother 10-5.
Last but by no means least, Michael van Gerwen bowed out of this year's tournament in a close-run match against World No. 3 Adrian Lewis.
Neither player could be separated after an incredible 10 legs and it took another eight to finally settle an epic contest.
Lewis will now face Huybrechts in the quarter-finals.
Day 5 Recap
6 of 6
Round of 16 Results - Wednesday, Nov. 13
Scott Waites 10-6 Mark Webster
Tony O’Shea 10-7 Andy Hamilton
Robert Thornton 10-8 Mervyn King
Ted Hankey 10-9 Simon Whitlock
There was drama on Day 5 at the Wolverhampton Civic Hall as Ted Hankey shocked world No. 4 Simon Whitlock to reach the Grand Slam of Darts quarter-final.
Hankey, who finished second in Group H, recovered from 6-1 down to beat the former European Champion 10-9.
Speaking with Sky Sports after the come-from-behind win, Hankey said:
"I never ever give up, Simon's played brilliant there but I just knew I could play better, I threw some sloppy darts, some of the fans were screaming and doing my head in but I just found a place in my head and then I was alright.
"
Hankey will now take on Scott Waites, who plies his trade with the British Darts Organisation rather than the Professional Darts Corporation.
Waites, a champion at this event in 2010, hit eight 180s as he overcame Mark Webster in the opening bout of the night.
Elsewhere, world No. 5 Andy Hamilton’s struggles continued as he fell to Tony O’Shea.
O’Shea, who finished top of Group E, will now take on Robert Thornton in the last eight after the Group F winner ended Mervyn King’s tournament hopes.
The remainder of the round of 16 matches will get underway from 7 p.m. GMT on Thursday.
