Ireland beat Netherlands by six wickets with two balls remaining to win their Twenty20 World Cup Qualifier warm-up match at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi.

The victors batted second and racked up a score of 143, with William Porterfield’s unbeaten 75 leading the way. 

Ireland's captain remained at the crease throughout the 20.0 overs and hit two finely timed shots to win the match from inviting Ahsan Malik deliveries.

Things didn’t start brightly for Ireland, who lost Paul Stirling to a duck before Portfield and Niall O’Brien put together a much-needed partnership of 70.

The pair’s total of 109 gave Ireland a comfortable edge before Kevin O’Brien and Gary Wilson added 13 and 19 respectively to ensure a smart win.

Mudassar Bukhari took two wickets for the Netherlands, while Paul van Meekeren and Malik grabbed one each.

Wesley Barresi had threatened to give the Dutch a commanding lead earlier in the day, with 50 from 46 balls getting the Netherlands off to a solid start.

His opening partnership with Stephan Myburgh drummed up 42 runs before Eric Szwarcynski and Daan vun Bunge were dismissed for 14 and a single respectively.

Ben Cooper’s presence added a solid 42 before Barresi fell to Porterfield and Tim Gruijters outlived just two balls from Alex Cusack, adding another single to the score.

Cusack and Max Sorensen grabbed themselves two wickets each, while George Dockrell added to his statistics with the dismissal of Szwarcynski.
