Week 11 Pickups: Andre Brown and Hottest Waiver-Wire Targets

Donald WoodNov 11, 2013

The fantasy football season is entering the homestretch heading toward the postseason, and it is imperative that owners hit the waiver wire in Week 11 to pick up breakout stars like New York Giants running back Andre Brown and others.

All of the following players had huge games in Week 10 and will carry that momentum through the rest of the season. Fantasy owners must pick all of these stars up immediately.

Andre Brown, RB, New York Giants

The New York Giants are ranked 29th in the NFL with 76.9 rushing yards per game this season, but the return of emerging star Andre Brown from a broken leg should result in a more consistent rush attack.

Brown ran the ball 30 times for 115 yards and a touchdown, showing no signs of rust whatsoever. More importantly, former starter Peyton Hillis only amassed five carries and did nothing to surpass the new No. 1 back.

While it’s hard enough to find a great player on the waiver wire, discovering a viable starting running back who will not be part of a committee is even rarer. If New York can use the improved rushing attack to open up the pass game, Brown’s numbers will continue to increase.

John Carlson, TE, Minnesota Vikings

Minnesota Vikings star tight end Kyle Rudolph's fractured foot left fantasy owners desperate for another option, but John Carlson proved in Week 10 that the answer was right under owners' noses the whole time.

Carlson was targeted seven times as part of the simplistic offense the Vikings continue to run with so much turnover at quarterback, and he caught each of the passes that came his way. He turned those catches into 98 yards and a touchdown, making him a valuable option at an overall weak fantasy position.

Rudolph is scheduled to miss up to a month, meaning owners looking for both a short-term fix or a long-term replacement must make this waiver-wire pickup. Carlson has talent and is fully capable of maintaining this pace with consistent playing time.

Mark Ingram, RB, New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints have been utterly disappointed by former first-round pick Mark Ingram thus far in his career, but the running back had one of his best games in Week 10 and looks to be returning to full health.

With the Saints beating the Dallas Cowboys on the scoreboard early and often Sunday night, Ingram received 14 carries and ran the ball for 145 yards and one touchdown. He also added two receptions and played a sturdy role in New Orleans' game plan.

There will always be a concern that Ingram reverts back to the player unable to find his rhythm in the NFL—especially against the tough San Francisco 49ers in Week 11—but Sunday’s huge statistical day should breed serious confidence in the young player.
