James LowryMay 26, 2009

The Kansas City Chiefs have seen moving and shaking going on in the franchise  over the past few months. Matt Cassell, and Mike Vrable have had there interviews with the media. LSU defensive giants Glen Dorsey, and Tyson Jackson have had their interviews along with  other 2009 NFL draftees. Larry Johnson, and Brian Waters have both been in hiding not wanting their voices heard on what they think of this year’s team. Left Tackle Brandon Albert, CB Brandon Carr, and CB Brandon Flowers have all have been mentioned in OTA’s.

One player that hasn’t had his name mentioned very often is Chiefs 2008 Mack Lee Hill Rookie of the Year, Maurice Leggett. Maurice came to the Chiefs with vigor, a desire to win, and a backup position. Half the season was over before Maurice could show that he could shine. In 6 games Maurice Leggett was able to pull down 2 interceptions for touchdowns.

So for my first interview I would like to bring in Maurice Leggett. Here are a few questions that I would like to ask.

Maurice, thanks for coming in today… I was wondering how your injury is recovering, and will you be ready to play come opening day?

How did it feel to be recognized as the Chiefs Rookie of the year? This puts you up there with greats Derrick Thomas and Tony Gonzalez. You also beat out first round picks Brandon Alberts, and Glen Dorsey for the award. What Are your thoughts about this and your teammates?

About this time last year you said, “I want to get two percent better every day,” said the Chiefs rookie cornerback. “That’s something that’s doable. It’s not overwhelming.” Is this the same mentality you have in recuperating from your injury? Also should we expect you to be twice as good as you were last year?

It seems like you were pretty successful this past year, what can you tell this years group of rookies about the transition from the college game to the pro game?

How difficult was it to transition into living and playing in a new city?

Brandon Carr, and Brandon Flowers had pretty decent years last year at cornerback. Where do you see yourself in the defense, and/or special teams this year?

Maurice, you stand 5 foot 11, and weigh 188 lbs… This is a little small for a nickelback, or cornerback… What do you have to say about those that don’t respect your talent?

Thank you Mr. Leggett, and we hope that you have another successful season in 2009.
