ATP World Tour Finals 2013: Schedule and Predictions for Sunday
The semifinals of the 2013 ATP World Tour Finals will take place on Sunday, and there's bound to be some exciting action throughout the day.
Big names Juan Martin del Potro and David Ferrer have gone down, but the true superstars of the sport are still standing for the semifinals of the men's singles. The doubles bracket has some interesting names remaining, and there will certainly be some exciting action to watch in those matches as well.
Let's take a look at the full schedule for the singles and doubles matches for Sunday, followed by a prediction for each one.
| Rafael Nadal | Roger Federer | 2 p.m. | 9 a.m. |
| Novak Djokovic | Stanislas Wawrinka | 8 p.m. | 3 p.m. |
| I. Dodig/M. Melo | D. Marrero/F. Verdasco | 12 p.m. | 7 a.m. |
| A. Peya/B. Soares | B. Bryan/M. Bryan | 6 p.m. | 1 p.m. |
Predictions
I. Dodig/M. Melo vs. D. Marrero/F. Verdasco
Ivan Dodig and Marcalo Melo will be taking on David Marrero and Fernando Verdasco on Sunday, but this isn't the first time these two pairs have gone against each other.
These two pairings went at it earlier this year in Shanghai, with Dodig and Melo winning in three sets. Although Marerreo and Verdasco have the better ATP record at 35-17, I expect Dodig and Melo to win this rematch and advance to the finals.
Winner: Ivan Dodig/Marcelo Melo
A. Peya/B. Soares vs. B. Bryan/M. Bryan
The two top-ranked doubles teams will be going head to head in this one, and they're very familiar with each other.
In six previous ATP matches between the two pairings, the Bryan twins have won five of them. Bob and Mike Bryan have been tremendous this year, winning 11 titles and posting a 75-11 record in the FedEx ATP.
Alexander Peya and Bruno Soares have had a good season as well, winning five titles. They've also posted a 60-18 record, but they've always seemed to have trouble against the Ryan twins.
When it comes to this match, how can you not pick Mike and Bob? They're easily the best doubles pair, and they should be able to win their sixth match against Peya and Soares.
Winner: Mike Bryan/Bob Bryan
Novak Djokovic vs. Stanislas Wawrinka
After playing each other less than two weeks ago, Stanislas Wawrinka will be looking for revenge against Novak Djokovic.
Djokovic made quick work of Wawrinka in the Paris Masters quarterfinals at the beginning of the month, winning 6-1, 6-4. In their head-to-head ATP matches, Djokovic has won 14 of the 16 and hasn't lost to Wawrinka since 2006.
For Wawrinka, he's had a decent season, posting a 49-21 ATP record while also making it to the semifinals at the US Open, his deepest career run in any Grad Slam tournament. Djokovic has been terrific yet again, winning the Australian Open with an ATP record of 67-9.
Since Djokovic hasn't had much trouble with Wawrinka in previous matches, I don't think he will have to worry about losing this one.
Winner: Novak Djokovic
Rafael Nadal vs. Roger Federer
In what is bound to be the biggest match of the day, two big rivals in Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer will be going head to head.
Nadal has been having a great 2013 season, winning both the French Open and the US Open. As the current No. 1 player, he's posted an impressive 71-6 record in ATP matches. For Federer, he's certainly had an off year, with an ATP record of just 43-15 while failing to advance to the finals in any of the Grand Slam tournaments.
When going against each other in ATP matches, Nadal has won 21 of the 30 matches. I expect him to win again based off of how much Federer has been struggling, and he will advance to the finals to likely play against Djokovic.
Winner: Rafael Nadal
