Kevin Huber a Cincinnati Sports Story

Kevin Huber has a unique opportunity, one that will allow him to play his High School, College and Pro ball all in his home city of Cincinnati. Kevin attended McNicholas High School about 10 minutes from my house, where he played for the Rockets.

Kevin accepted a scholarship to stay at home and punt for the University of Cincinnati, where he led the nation in punting his senior year. Last year Cincinnati won the Big East and played in the Orange Bowl game against Virginia Tech, the Bearcats lost 20-7, but they were able put themselves in the national limelight.

In the 5^th round of the 2009 draft the Bengals proved that kickers are people to, selecting Cincinnati punter Kevin Huber, allowing Kevin who still lives in his parents basement, to put off finding a new place to live for awhile.

The Bengals were so impressed with Huber, that they have already released their five year veteran punter Kyle Larson, and his backup Ryan Plackemeier before training camp ever began. Huber was averaging 4.0 seconds in 11 on 11 punt drills; he also had two punts with a hang time of 5.0 seconds in that series.

Kevin Huber is known for pinning opponents deep inside their own territory, last year he had 27 punts for over 50 yards per attempt and twenty times he pinned his opponents inside of their own 20 yard line. Everyone in Cincinnati was happy with the Bengals for keeping Huber home, it not only is a position of need it is what the fans of Cincinnati wanted.

Kevin will have little to no trouble adjusting, he is as Cincinnati as Skyline Chili. He said it’s like a dream come true, playing his entire career in his hometown. 

He was one of the first draft picks to show up after being drafted, he said he could not wait to get started. One thing for sure is Huber will win over the fans of the Bengals, well the fans he has not already won over.
