Bengals' Adam Jones to Make His Return to TNA Wrestling Thursday Night

Joseph ZuckerJun 1, 2018

Adam Jones—yes, Adam "Pacman" Jones—is set to make his return to the Impact Zone on Thursday night.

TNA President Dixie Carter revealed the news on Wednesday.

She had previously teased on her Twitter account that a former world title holder was making his return.

In that regard, she's not incorrect. Jones won the TNA tag team titles in 2007 with Ron Killings. Of course, he did so without actually wrestling anyone, as that was the only way the Tennessee Titans would agree to allow their cornerback at the time to take part in the event.

When trying to make sense of it all, you could argue that since he's a pro football player, bringing him in does draw awareness to the company from more mainstream sports outlets that would normally ignore TNA completely.

Also, Impact will be in Cincinnati Thursday night, so it's not a big trip to make for the Bengals cornerback, and it's cost-effective.

Give Jones credit, as he is already hard at work giving Joseph Parks advice on how to further his wrestling career.

Try as you might, though, there's almost no way you can feel this is the best move for TNA.

Plenty of talented wrestlers have won world titles with the company and aren't employed by WWE. When looking at the complete list of world title holders the company has ever had, Jones would have to be dead last. But that would imply that people remembered him being with TNA in the first place.

Suffice it to say, fans weren't too happy with TNA teasing this decision, only to reveal Jones as the returning champion.

Lloyd Gross went the sarcastic route.

Former WWE referee Jimmy Korderas makes the point that TNA deserves whatever criticism it receives.

Marty DeRosa is even going to take the radical step of removing Carter from his Christmas list.

For a company struggling to gain credibility, announcing the return of Jones will end up likely doing more harm than good.
