John Wall Tells Half-Empty Washington Arena Wizards Are Best Fans in NBA

The Washington Wizards fancy themselves contenders for an Eastern Conference playoff spot this season, even going so far as trading a first-round pick to the Suns for Marcin Gortat before the start of the season.

Their optimism is due in no small part to former No. 1 overall pick John Wall, who is being asked to assume more of a leadership role this season. With that in mind, the team chose Wall to address the crowd before tonight's home opener.

Judging by these photos, "half full" might be pushing it.

So why are the DC faithful staying away in droves on a Friday night? There are a few possibilities:

1. They heard a rumor owner Ted Leonsis was thinking of changing the team's name from "Wizards" to "Redskins," and the fans don't want to touch that controversy with a ten-foot pole.
2. They watched tonight's opponent, the 76ers, handle the defending-champion Miami Heat on Wednesday, and they figured the Wiz have no chance.
3. Everybody in the DC metro area DVR'ed last night's "Scandal," and they just can't walk away from that kind of commitment.
