The Breeders' Cup Classic Championship
The main event of the weekend is the Breeders' Cup Classic. This race pits 12 of the best horses and jockeys in the world against each other on a mile-and-a-quarter dirt track. The winner will take home all the pride and glory that comes with winning a major horse race and that handsome little $5 million grand prize.
This year's Classic brings all of the excitement and intrigue that one would expect from a top-level horse race. The field is packed with Triple Crown contenders and big names, all vying for the grand prize, and here's how the field looks heading into the big race:
| Post | Horse | Jockey | Trainer | Odds |
| 1 | Last Gunfighter | Javier Castellano | Chad Brown | 20-1 |
| 2 | Paynter | Martin Garcia | Bob Baffert | 12-1 |
| 3 | Planteur | Ryan Moore | Marco Botti | 20-1 |
| 4 | Moreno | Jospeh Talamo | Eric Guillot | 15-1 |
| 5 | Declaration of War | Joseph O'Brien | Aidan O'Brien | 10-1 |
| 6 | Mucho Macho Man | Gary Stevens | Kathy Ritvo | 5-1 |
| 7 | Fort Larned | Brian Hernandez, Jr. | Ian Wilkes | 6-1 |
| 8 | Palace Malice | John Velazquez | Todd Pletcher | 10-1 |
| 9 | Game On Dude | Mike Smith | Bob Baffert | 8-5 |
| 10 | Will Take Charge | Luis Saez | D. Wayne Lukas | 12-1 |
| 11 | Ron The Greek | Jose Lezcano | William Mott | 8-1 |
| 12 | Flat Out | Joel Rosario | William Mott | 12-1 |
There are quite a few intriguing elements involved with the Breeders' Classic, but the most intriguing are Fort Larned, Game On Dude and Mucho Macho Man.
Fort Larned is the defending champ at the Breeders' Classic after taking home the victory in 2012 by just a half-length. Larned has his work cut out for him against Game On Dude, trainer Bob Baffert's most recent superstar.
Game On Dude was only able to muster a seventh-place finish at the Breeders' Classic in 2012, but since then he's won six consecutive races and showed enough potential to pull veteran jockey Mike Smith from Palace Malice, the Belmont Stakes winner, to hop on Game On Dude for the Breeders' Classic.
Mucho Macho Man is another interesting element to the weekend's biggest race with jockey Gary Stevens who recently pulled off a shocking win at the Preakness on the back of Oxbow, one of the biggest longshots in history, on his back.
Post positions for all of the races can be found here.
