Breeders' Cup 2013 Post Times: TV Schedule, Post Positions Info and Race Preview

Donald WoodOct 31, 2013

The 2013 Breeders’ Cup is one of the biggest horse races of the year. While casual fans think of the Triple Crown as the biggest races on the schedule, that trio of events pales in comparison to the championships from Santa Anita Park.

Whether you’re a hardcore horse racing fan or just a sporadic enthusiast who catches only the biggest events, witnessing the 29th edition of the Classic Championships is something everyone should experience.

This event consists of 14 total races over the course of two days, so there is enough action to keep every fan interested in the action.

Breeders’ Cup Classic Preview and Prediction

Some fans might not understand how the less-publicized Breeders’ Cup can hold more prestige than the hunt for the Triple Crown, but in a sport predicated on money, the main event of the year has become the Breeders’ Cup.

The purse for the Kentucky Derby is over $2 million dollars, and the purses for the Preakness and Belmont Stakes are around $1 million dollars each. The final race of this weekend’s championships (the Breeders’ Cup Classic) will yield a purse of $5 million dollars.

That means Saturday’s main event pays more than the three Triple Crown events combined.

The 1.25-mile race will engulf Santa Anita Park in a frenzy, and the fierce battle between the top horses, trainers and jockeys will have this race reaching a fever pitch.

With elite trainers (legends in the sport like Bob Baffert, Todd Pletcher and D. Wayne Lukas) and some of the best jockeys (Gary Stevens, Mike Smith and more) taking part in this year's event, this will be a showcase of what makes the sport so interesting.

Add all of the talented horses that will participate in this premier event (fans should consider placing wagers on studs like Mucho Macho Man, Palace Malice and Game On Dude), and this is race all fans must make time to watch Saturday night.

Predicted Winner: Mucho Macho Man.
