Survivor Series WWE Title Match Quality Should Be Sacrificed for Bryan vs. HHH

Jamie WestJun 8, 2018

Over the past few months, it had seemed that WWE were booking shows with a future Triple H vs. Big Show encounter in mind. Ever since Hunter turned heel by attacking Daniel Bryan at SummerSlam prior to his title defense against Randy Orton, Big Show has been a prominent rebel and leader against the dictatorial ways of the corporate machine.

However, it could be argued that the time for Triple H to face Big Show has come and gone; the real feud "The Game" should be concerning his limited in-ring appearances with is the story of his ongoing oppression of Bryan, and the latter's attempts to climb to the top of the WWE totem pole. Unless this feud is planned to stretch as far a WrestleMania, Survivor Series should be the pay-per-view to host a match between WWE's COO and Shawn Michaels' protege.

If this match features on the card of November's "big four" PPV, it will almost undoubtedly be the last match of the evening, with Randy Orton's WWE Championship taking a back seat to arguably the company's most over heel, Triple H.

However, unless CM Punk is finally allowed to move up and out of his quickly waning feud with Paul Heyman and Ryback, Orton does not actually have many legitimate top-face contenders to his title. Moreover, with John Cena the newly crowned World Heavyweight Champion, it would be fair to suggest that his interests, like Punk's, remain outside of the company's top title scene.

With this in mind, it actually would make sense for Big Show to challenge Randy Orton for the WWE Championship; he is still considered a top-tier talent (somehow, despite consistently average pay-per-view matches) but Orton could go over him, perhaps cleanly, to build momentum before heading into a more serious feud with the likes of CM Punk, John Cena or once again Daniel Bryan.

The match quality would, of course, be average at best. But for the sake of the bigger picture and the continuation of the feud, it would be a good idea for Creative to book Big Show as the No. 1 contender for Survivor Series, provided he doesn't win.

This way, not only do fans get the match that should rightly be the next step in the story, but we also get to avoid suffering through a bout between Triple H and everybody's least favorite giant.
